Chickasaws Dominate Field, Win Class 2A State Girls Golf Title

New Hampton places three in top-10 as Chickasaws have historic day at state golf

After a couple of years knocking at the door, the New Hampton girls golf team knocked it down Wednesday at the Ames Golf and Country Club, where the Chickasaws claimed the school’s first ever state team title in the sport.

New Hampton followed up its opening round 335 with a 327 second 18 to easily win the Class 2A championship. The Chickasaws two-day score of 662 beat second-place Okoboji by 59 strokes.

Individually, the Chickasaws were led by Allison Nuss, who finished second in the medalist race with a 148, just one stroke behind Dike-New Hartford’s Morgan Weber.

Morgan Nuss, meanwhile, shot an 80 on Wednesday to finish with a 164, good for a tie for fifth place while Emma Ewert was 10th with a 167.

On a day filled with great stories, one of the best was written by the Chickasaws’ lone senior, Regan Gebel, who had a career-best round of 87 to finish with a 190 and take 31st place. Sanja Djukic was 32nd with a 192 while Lola Lemke finished 47th with a 202.

The state championship by coach Eric Olson’s team came after two straight second-place finishes at the state meet, and with five of the six golfers back, New Hampton is already a state title favorite in 2020.
